Following the installation created as part of the exhibition “Sphère Code Cylindre” at the Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence from the 5th of January to the 5th of March 2023, the artwork “Érosion numérique - Kneeling Persian“ has joined the permanent collection of Le Centre since October 4th 2023.

Érosion numérique, a series of 15 sculptures (3D printing resin) created in 2022, is a reflection on the loss of data attributed to digitisation, the process of digital replication. Here, Gauthier Le Rouzic, has reproduced a Roman statue, the “Perse Vaincu” [the Conquered Persian] (A.D 200) from the Musée Granet's reserves and exhibited at the Louvre since 2017.
One by one, through successive digitisation, each 3D printed copy highlights the loss of details of each sculpture as the process occurs, from the almost perfect replica to the emergence of a new piece of art.

Beautifully exhibited today on the indoor pond at Le Centre, this artwork is an echo of the version displayed at the Louvre, as well as one of the “Persian Warrior”, another version of the same scene displayed for a while at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, acquired by the Vatican's Museums.
